Part No. 145-185 | Mitutoyo Series 145

Product Description

The Mitutoyo 145-185 Caliper Jaw Inside Micrometer is designed for precise measurement of small internal dimensions from 5 to 30 mm. Its specialized pin-type jaws allow the measuring faces to reach into small bores, internal grooves, slots and other recessed features that can be difficult to measure with conventional micrometers.

The 145-185 provides ±5 µm accuracy with 0.01 mm graduation. The carbide-tipped measuring faces provide good resistance to wear during repeated inspection, while the fully mechanical construction means there are no batteries or electronic components to maintain.

A locking clamp secures the spindle after measurement, helping retain the measured position when the tool is withdrawn from a bore or other internal feature. The satin chrome thimble and sleeve provide a clear, readable scale while helping reduce glare in workshop environments.

The 145-185 should be set against a known reference before use. A suitable setting ring or inside setting standard is required and is available separately.

For larger internal dimensions, the Mitutoyo 145-186 covers 25–50 mm.

Who This Product Is Best For

The Mitutoyo 145-185 is suitable for machine shops, hydraulic and pump repair workshops, valve manufacturers, maintenance departments and quality-control applications where small internal dimensions need to be checked accurately.

It is particularly useful for machinists and inspectors measuring small bores, bushings, internal grooves, slots and other features within the 5–30 mm range.

Its pin-type jaw design makes the 145-185 particularly suited to smaller internal features. For larger measurements, the Mitutoyo 145-186 covers the 25–50 mm range.

How to Use

  1. Set the micrometer against a setting ring or inside setting standard of known size.

  2. Adjust the micrometer to establish the correct reference dimension.

  3. Close the pin-type jaws slightly below the expected feature size.

  4. Insert the jaws carefully and squarely into the bore, groove or slot.

  5. Open the jaws gently until the measuring faces contact the internal surfaces.

  6. Rock the micrometer slightly to locate the correct measurement position.

  7. Lock the spindle if required, withdraw the tool and read the thimble and sleeve.

For reliable dimensional inspection, always use a suitable reference standard and follow the applicable measurement procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Mitutoyo 145-185 used for?

The Mitutoyo 145-185 is used to measure small internal dimensions such as bore diameters, internal grooves and slot widths across its 5–30 mm range.

What is the measuring range of the Mitutoyo 145-185?

The measuring range is 5–30 mm.

How accurate is the Mitutoyo 145-185?

The specified accuracy is ±5 µm, with a graduation of 0.01 mm.

What type of jaws does the Mitutoyo 145-185 use?

The 145-185 uses pin-type jaws designed to reach into small internal features from approximately 5 mm. This distinguishes it from larger Series 145 models that use anvil-type jaws.

Does the Mitutoyo 145-185 require batteries?

No. It is a fully mechanical analog inside micrometer and does not require batteries.

Does the 145-185 require a setting ring?

Yes. A suitable setting ring or inside setting standard should be used to establish the reference dimension before measurement. The setting standard is available separately.

What is the difference between the Mitutoyo 145-185 and 145-186?

The 145-185 covers 5–30 mm and uses pin-type jaws for small internal features. The 145-186 covers 25–50 mm and is intended for larger internal dimensions.
