The 9AL series are Palmer Wahl economy industrial thermometers in a 9 in (220 mm) extruded aluminium case with black finish. Cast aluminium stems come in 3.5 or 6 in lengths, with a tapered bulb chamber for metal-to-metal contact with a matching tapered thermowell. Standard models use red-reading mercury; SB models use mercury-free Sky Blue liquid.

Air duct versions (6 in stem only) have a bare bulb guarded by a 3/4 in perforated aluminium shield. The 50/400 range is not offered with Sky Blue fill.
