The Micrometer comprises of a C-shaped frame with a movable jaw driven by an integral screw for performing exact linear measurements of solid body parameters such as diameters, thicknesses, and lengths. The amount the spindle moves toward or away from the anvil in one revolution and the mechanisms available for indicating fractional parts of a revolution determine the fineness of the measurement that can be made. The precision of the measurements is determined by the screw-nut combination's accuracy.
