Mitutoyo 129-128 Depth Micrometer, Interchangeable Rods 0-6", 2,5" Base

Part Number : 129-128

Part No. 129-128 | Mitutoyo Series 129

Product Description

The Mitutoyo 129-128 depth micrometer provides accurate depth measurement from 0 to 6" using six interchangeable measuring rods. Its compact 2.5" × .63" hardened, ground and micro-lapped base provides a stable reference surface while fitting into narrower shoulders, smaller openings and recessed features.

The six interchangeable ø4 mm rods extend the measuring range in 1" steps, allowing one instrument to cover depths throughout the 0–6" range. Each rod has a lapped measuring face, and the measuring-rod clamp secures the selected rod during use.

A ratchet stop helps maintain consistent measuring force for repeatable readings. With .001" graduation and ±.00012" micrometer head accuracy, the 129-128 is suited to dimensional inspection of machined components.

Typical applications include counterbore depths, slot and keyway depths, step heights, shoulder distances, holes and recessed features. The compact base is particularly useful where a wider depth-micrometer base could overhang the available reference surface.

For the same 0–6" range with a wider 4" × .63" base, see the Mitutoyo 129-132. For measurements up to 4", see the Mitutoyo 129-127.

Key Benefits

Broad measuring range: six interchangeable rods cover 0–6" in 1" increments.

Precise readings: .001" graduation with ±.00012" micrometer head accuracy.

Compact reference base: the 2.5" × .63" base is suited to narrower shoulders and smaller openings.

Repeatable measuring force: the ratchet stop helps maintain consistent contact pressure.

Secure rod positioning: the measuring-rod clamp holds the selected rod firmly.

Flexible depth measurement: interchangeable rods allow multiple depths to be measured with one instrument.

Who This Product Is Best For

The Mitutoyo 129-128 is suited to machine shops, mould and die makers, quality inspectors and maintenance teams that require depth measurement up to 6" and benefit from a compact reference base.

It is useful for inspecting machined parts, checking counterbores and recessed features, verifying slot and keyway depths, and measuring step heights and shoulder distances where access around the feature is limited.

How to Use

  1. Select the interchangeable rod appropriate for the required depth and secure it using the measuring-rod clamp.

  2. Place the base flat and square across the opening or reference surface.

  3. Turn the micrometer thimble until the measuring rod contacts the bottom of the feature.

  4. Finish the measurement using the ratchet stop to help apply consistent measuring force.

  5. Read the sleeve and thimble and account for the selected rod length to determine the total depth.

  6. For critical inspection work, verify the instrument against a suitable reference standard before measurement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Mitutoyo 129-128 used for?

The 129-128 measures the depth of holes, slots, steps, recesses, counterbores and similar features from 0 to 6" using six interchangeable rods and a compact 2.5" × .63" base.

How accurate is the Mitutoyo 129-128?

The micrometer head has an accuracy of ±.00012". The interchangeable rod accuracy is specified as ±(2 + L/75) µm, where L is the maximum measuring length in millimetres.

How do the interchangeable rods work?

The 129-128 uses six ø4 mm interchangeable rods in 1" increments. Select the rod appropriate for the required depth, secure it with the clamp, and use the micrometer head for the final measurement.

What is the difference between the 129-128 and 129-132?

Both models cover 0–6". The 129-128 has a compact 2.5" × .63" base, while the 129-132 has a wider 4" × .63" base. The 129-128 is useful where a narrower reference base is preferred, while the 129-132 provides a broader surface across larger openings.

What is the difference between the 129-128 and 129-127?

The 129-128 covers 0–6" with six interchangeable rods. The 129-127 covers 0–4", making it suitable when the required measuring depth does not exceed 4".
