Product Overview

The Mitutoyo 511-744 dial bore gauge measures internal diameters from 4"–6.5" (101.6–165.1 mm) with a self-centring two-point head and a 0.0005" dial indicator. Carbide contact points provide wear resistance, while the heat-insulating grip reduces heat transfer from the operator's hand by 50% to help maintain stable readings during extended inspection runs.

The two-point contact and centring guide allow the gauge head to align across the true diameter as it is gently rocked through the bore. The longer plunger stroke supports practical bore inspection, while interchangeable 0.5 mm washers allow fine step adjustment of the anvils. Optional extension rods can be used for deeper bores.

Before measurement, set the gauge against a setting ring or optional Inside Micro Checker. Typical applications include compressor casings, large valve bodies, and turbine and gearbox housings. It is suitable for oil and gas maintenance workshops, refinery and petrochemical shutdown crews, and CNC machine shops across Kuwait.

Temperature control is important for close-tolerance measurements. Steel expands by approximately 11.5 μm per metre per °C. At 165.1 mm, a 10°C temperature difference can change the dimension by roughly 19.0 μm. Allow the workpiece and Mitutoyo 511-744 to reach the same temperature before taking a final reading.

  • QC teams measuring bore size, taper and ovality

  • Oil and gas maintenance workshops

  • Refinery and petrochemical shutdown crews

  • CNC machining and fabrication workshops

  • Engine, pump and hydraulic rebuild workshops

  • Buyers standardising on Mitutoyo 511-series dial bore gauges

How to Measure a Bore With This Gauge

  1. Fit the appropriate anvil or washer combination for the nominal bore size.

  2. Set the gauge against a setting ring or master of known size and establish the reference.

  3. Insert the gauge into the bore and gently rock it through the measuring position to identify the turning point on the indicator.

  4. Record the deviation from nominal and repeat measurements at different depths to check for taper and bore variation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What range does the Mitutoyo 511-744 dial bore gauge measure?

It measures internal diameters from 4"–6.5" (101.6–165.1 mm).

Is a dial indicator included?

Yes. The Mitutoyo 511-744 is supplied with a 0.0005" dial indicator.

Do I need a setting ring?

For best accuracy, set the gauge against a setting ring or master of known size before measuring.

Why does the grip matter?

Heat from the operator's hand can affect the gauge. The larger insulating grip reduces heat transfer by 50%, helping maintain stable readings.

Which model should I choose if my bore is outside 4"–6.5"?

Choose a model whose measuring range brackets the required bore size. The 511-744 covers 4"–6.5". The 511-743 covers 2"–6", while the 511-745 covers 6.5"–10".

Can the Mitutoyo 511-744 be recalibrated?

Yes. It can be periodically recalibrated through an ISO/IEC
