Brannan 23/400/3 is a 50 mm stainless steel dial oven thermometer with a black scale that hangs from or stands on the oven shelf. An oven thermostat is often positioned away from the cooking area, so its reading may not match conditions around the food; placing this thermometer near the food gives a better guide for setting the controls. Remove it after use and do not use it in a microwave or during a self-cleaning cycle.
