Mitutoyo 511-705 Standard Dial Bore Gauge, Range 160-250mm (Without Dial Gauge)

Part Number : 511-705

Part No. 511-705 | Mitutoyo Series 511

Product Description

The Mitutoyo 511-705 dial bore gauge is designed for accurate inside-diameter measurement across a 160–250 mm range. Its 2-point contact system self-centres in the bore, allowing the gauge to be rocked gently to identify the minimum reading and determine the actual bore diameter.

Unlike a simple inside measuring tool that checks size at a single position, a dial bore gauge can be used at different depths and angles to identify bore conditions such as taper and ovality. This makes the 511-705 useful for dimensional inspection of large machined bores, cylinders and other precision components.

The gauge uses 6 interchangeable anvils and 7 spacers to cover the 160–250 mm measuring range. The carbide contact point and interchangeable measuring components are suited to repeated inspection work, while the ø8 mm gauge stem accepts a compatible dial indicator.

The dial indicator is not included. This allows the 511-705 to be configured with a suitable Mitutoyo dial indicator or Digimatic indicator according to the required resolution, display and data-output requirements.

As a comparator-type instrument, the 511-705 must be zeroed against a known reference before measurement. A suitable setting ring or an outside micrometer can be used as the reference. For applications requiring controlled inspection, a setting ring can be quoted together with the bore gauge.

For smaller bore sizes, see the Mitutoyo 511-704, which covers 100–160 mm.

Key Benefits

Wide measuring range: covers bore diameters from 160 to 250 mm.

Self-centring measurement: the 2-point contact system helps position the gauge consistently inside the bore.

Bore condition inspection: suitable for checking diameter, taper and ovality at multiple depths and angles.

Flexible indicator selection: supplied without a dial indicator so the appropriate dial or Digimatic indicator can be selected separately.

Interchangeable measuring components: 6 anvils and 7 spacers provide coverage across the specified measuring range.

Carbide contact point: provides a durable contact surface for repeated dimensional inspection.

Fitted storage case: supplied with a fitted case for organized storage and transport.

Who This Product Is Best For

The Mitutoyo 511-705 is suited to engine rebuilding workshops, hydraulic and pump service facilities, CNC machine shops, maintenance departments and quality control teams working with large internal diameters from 160 to 250 mm.

It can be used for first-off inspection, in-process dimensional checks, bore wear assessment and verification of machined components. It is particularly useful when checking whether a bore remains consistent along its depth rather than measuring diameter at only one location.

How to Use

  1. Mount a compatible dial or Digimatic indicator in the gauge stem.

  2. Select the appropriate anvil and spacers for the nominal bore diameter.

  3. Set the gauge to zero using a suitable setting ring or an outside micrometer set to the required nominal dimension.

  4. Insert the bore gauge into the bore without forcing the measuring contacts.

  5. Rock the gauge gently through the measuring position and identify the minimum indicator reading.

  6. Compare the reading with the reference zero to determine the bore deviation.

  7. Repeat the measurement at different depths and orientations when checking for taper or ovality.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Mitutoyo 511-705 used for?

The 511-705 is a dial bore gauge for measuring internal diameters from 160 to 250 mm. It can also be used to inspect bore taper and ovality by taking measurements at different depths and angles.

How accurate is the Mitutoyo 511-705?

The Mitutoyo Series 511 data specifies 2 µm wide-range accuracy for the head, with 0.5 µm repeatability and 1 µm adjacent error.

Is the dial indicator included with the 511-705?

No. The 511-705 is supplied without a dial indicator. A compatible Mitutoyo dial or Digimatic indicator can be selected separately according to the required measurement and data-output requirements.

How many interchangeable anvils does the 511-705 have?

The 511-705 uses 6 interchangeable anvils together with 7 spacers to provide measurement coverage across the 160–250 mm range.

Do I need a setting ring to use the bore gauge?

The bore gauge must be zeroed against a known reference before measurement. A suitable setting ring or an outside micrometer can be used as the reference. Setting rings are available separately and can be quoted with the gauge.

Can the 511-705 check taper and ovality?

Yes. After zeroing the gauge, take readings at several depths and rotate or reposition the gauge around the bore. Changes in readings can indicate taper or ovality.

What is the difference between the Mitutoyo 511-705 and 511-704?

The 511-705 covers 160–250 mm, while the 511-704 covers 100–160 mm. Choose the model whose measuring range brackets the bore diameter being inspected.
